⚙️The Technology - How it "Seeks"
Instead of injecting high-frequency electrical signals (which doesn't work on glass fiber) or relying on destructive cutting, the CT-202 utilizes the photo-elastic effect (also referred to as the optical elastic effect).
- A technician connects the CT-202 to one end of a test fiber at a wavelength of 1550nm.
- Another technician goes out to the manhole, tunnel, or aerial pole and gently taps or shakes the suspected cables using a knocking stick.
- The physical vibration slightly alters the light passing through the glass. The CT-202 uses coherent demodulation to convert these minute mechanical vibrations into real-time visual waveforms on its screen and audio signals through a headset. When you tap the right cable, the machine visually "lights up" and audio cues ring out.
